Who is Smiling Pug?

My photo
Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada
"I am a happy pug therefore.... I am a smiling pug"! My mum is called Smilingpug... after me! Because of her love of animals and nature, she is a Buddhist and a vegetarian (thank god). She is most inspired by the Dalai Lama. We live on the West Coast of Canada and I share my home with my two older feline sisters Tika and Kizzy and my NEW little brother Sam Cooper who... is all the way from MidSouth Pug Rescue in Tennessee!! I am 11 and I don't walk to well anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't get around! Welcome to my blog.

Our New Wally Inspired Security System

This post was inspired by Walter. Anyone who has been following his blog knows what happened to him. He darted out his door and got hit by an SUV. Mum was insistent that she post these pics today even though I had another story in mind. The pics below show the new "Wally Inspired" security system. We have a covered porch at the front of our townhouse but it is not fenced in. A couple of times I have wandered down the drive and out into the street. Of course I felt this was justified as a skateboard or stranger was going past my home and needed to be told who is in charge here! Mum does not see it that way and gets very upset with me. One day recently she came home with these black metal parts. There was a lot of excitement in the air as she went about assembling and installing them in the front of the porch. They are about 2 feet high and high enough to keep me in! She said something about purchasing them at a place called "Canadian Tire". You apparently buy them in separate pieces based on the length you need, and the gate opening piece is sold separate too so you can be creative and have several gate openings or just one. Now she can open the front door and not worry about me darting down the drive after something or another that happens to pass by that I feel needs barking at. We now call this the "Wally gate". My best pug pal, Dickens, came over the other day and I heard his Dad comment on how terrific an idea it was. He said it keeps Dickens from wandering while he and mum chat at the doorway. Mum says she highly recommends it, she says it is worth the $115.00 she spent at this Canadian Tire shop which I really couldn't care less about as it doesn't have the word "pet" in the name. So...... here is to you Wally!

An evening on Burnaby Mountain

It was a nice evening when mum said... "car ride to Burnaby Mountan, let's go" Here are pictures from that evening.
When we got there we saw the parachuting dude. Sometimes in the summer there are a couple of guys gliding down the hill. Not a long glide but fun to bark at none the less.
Mum tried to get a pic of me and the Burnaby City view in the background, the sun wasn't cooperating though. It was at the wrong angle.
Lounging on the grass and chewing a stick.
While I was walking around being encourage to "wee wee". I wandered into the bush for privacy when what to my surprise I found this slightly used kong toy. I was super excited and when I appeared out of the bushes I proudly struggled to carry it in my mouth. Mum was not as overly excited as I. Her response was...... "oh god now what the hell have you found..... that is absolutely filthy, covered in other dogs spit and soiled with dirt and way too big to carry in your mouth!" I was allowed to play with it a little while but NOT allowed to bring it home. I was not happy about that. Something about "tons of toys at home and the fact it was old and dirty".
I had to be placed up here as it was too high for my little legs to jump up. But wow look at the view! Pug-king of the world!
Trying to chew on stick while lounging watching the parachute dude and trying to bark all at the same time. Word of caution to all you pugs..... chewing and barking don't mix and can lead to coughing, snorting and choking, which in turns results in the taking away of the stick, by mum!
Posing for the camera with my little stick. Just before the barking incident.

Up Close and Personal

Some close up shots of me on the way home from swimming at the beach yesterday. Gosh it was so nice to get away from the loudness of the basketball tournament behind our house.

Winston's Favourite Things

We have been tagged to post a list of our favourite things! Here is the list of what I really like best.
My all time favourite snacks, Liver Treats. Liver is my favourite food in the whole world.
My favourite dry crunchies is Natural Choice Lamb and Rice Small Bites. I must have small bites I can't manage the big dog crunchies.
And of course my most favourite thing in the whole wide world...... my chuck mini. I have one in blue and one in pink (don't ask). I have a large supply of the small balls that go with it too. I never use the big chuck it as the balls are too big for my mouth.
Here is a picture of my favourite Harness Vest. It is multipurpose as it serves as a car seat belt too. I have one in royal blue and we sometimes refer to it as the "muscle vest" as it looks like a muscle shirt on me!
And my favourite dog bed is like this one. A medium sized oval shaped dog bed. I love my dog bed and sometimes mum has a hard time getting me out of it in the morning! My bed is blue and I won't sleep in it unless it has a blanket in it.
My favourite dog bakery is Big Dog Little Dog and I love going in here as it always smells of liver!

A Silent Sunday

If only we could really say it was a "silent sunday". The stupid 3 on 3 basketball touranment at the BCIT campus behind our townhouse, (our local friends will know where this is, the parking lot across the street hidden by our little green forest at the back of our yard), is soooooooo loud and Winston is soooooo tired from barking at it, the loud music, whistles, basketballs bouncing, announcer man yelling, teens screaming. We are going out for the day!!!! Enough is enough!

Dickens takes a holiday (without me!)

My best pug pal Dickens went on a car ride down south. They travelled 3000 miles to go what us pugs call, Dog Housing aka Camping. Whatever humans think I am sorry....... but sleeping in a structure under the stars, without a kitchen, where there is one entrance, no bathroom and the room is small is pretty much sleeping in a dog house to us pugs. Click on the link below to see his pictures from his trip. I am super pug jealous that I did not get to go! Mum says next time if the offer comes up, she will let me go. Pretty Little Mistakes

OH MY DOG! tonight we started the pick your own ending book called Pretty Little Mistakes. This is the book written by Walter's mummy. We bought the books to help support them during there difficult time. Mum was pug-happy about starting the books. She described it as being about pug-happy as a day at the beach with chuck it. So here is how it works. Mum reads the first chapter then when we get to the decision of option A or B she pulls out two different snacks. One is a liver snack and it represents option A. The other is a beef snack and it represents option B. Which ever one I choose first is the option mum chooses for the next step in the book. It is very exciting. So far we have chosen to travel to England where we then decided not to go to the funeral in India, but went to Greece instead. Now we have to decide if we stay and work in Greece or take the ticket home to the US. We will keep you up to date. Here are two pictures of us tonight (pics aren't that great but it shows us reading!)

WE GOT THE BOOKS!

If you love to read and love pugs, please purchase one or both of the books. This will help Walter's mum (Heather) earn money. Money that is much needed for his rehabilitation and vet bills. See the link in the side bar to the right. Mum has gone pug happy about these two books that are written by Walter's human. As you may be aware, Walter was hit by an SUV and sustained serious injuries. Mum and I have been following his blog daily to watch his progress. He is a darn cute little guy almost as cute as moi. So when mum got home from another one of her shopping excursions she was pug happy-over the moon with excitement. She was telling me that one of the books is a pick your own ending which she loves and used to read ones like that as a little pup. Now since I am a pug I can not read so mum has promised to read them a loud to me. Take a look, I am posing with the books.

Beach Time.... (finally!)

Ok this heat is just too much. We have been breaking records here in Vancouver and mum and I are getting just a little bit barky about it. We have not been to the beach cause it is too darn hot for moi. This makes me grouchy and barky. I feel fat and out of shape due to the lounging around in my bed for almost a week now. I miss my chuck it!!! Yesterday and today has been a bit cooler so FINALLY mum took me to the beach and then afterward we did some plane barking at YVR.
Shadow play! me and my shadow.
Mum's shadow
My cute little pug-butt! Here I am barking at an incoming jet
Alert and waiting for the approach of the jet, ready.... jet..... bark!
Is that a plane I hear off in the distance?
relaxing in between jets
Loaded in the car and ready to leave the beach..... mum loves the "soggy dog" cover, specially on days like today when I am soaking wet!
The routine is simply....... arrive at park, run to beach, play chuck it, sniff some butt, growl at big dogs trying to take chuck it away, pack up and saunter back to car while stopping for a pee break.
Taking a break from the water and chuck it
me and my mum, I am a happy pug therefore I am a smiling pug!
throw the ball already mum!
checking out my surroundings while I pause with my ball
Lots of action on the river today, big tugs and loads of waves makes one wet pug!
Ah finally.... the arrival at the beach. Me and dad making our way to the beach area. Ok the ground is soooo dry that I blend in with the brown grass! Let's play, spot the pug.
